Dr. Fenton completed his B.Eng. and M.Eng. degrees at Carleton University in Ottawa. His Master's thesis was entitled Differential Movements and Stresses Arising in Masonry Veneers of Highrise Structures. He then worked in the Civil Engineering Department at Carleton University for two years as a research engineer. In 1985, Dr. Fenton went to Princeton University in Princeton, New Jersey, to pursue his doctoral studies. His Ph.D. thesis, entitled Simulation and Analysis of Random Fields, was completed in 1990 at which point he joined the faculty of the Technical University of Nova Scotia (now Dalhousie University) in the Department of Engineering Mathematics. Dr. Fenton recently co-authored a textbook entitled "Risk Assessment in Geotechnical Engineering" (Wiley, 2008). His current research interest is to develop a rational reliability-based geotechnical design code.
